2023 Photography Recap

Over on Twitter in the NFT Space we share our year in review, I do one for my physical and digital prints, I hope you enjoy.

I thought my 2023 recap was going to be a bit sparse as I’ve had a fair bit of health stuff that stopped me from decent trips in the first 9 months of the year. After going through my shots I realised I still managed to smash my goals!

In February I saw and captured my FIRST ever Aurora Australis, a moment I didn’t know I’d accomplish so close to my home let-alone on a place called Mount Dale (IYKYK).

I also captured an Astro shot after 4 years of attempts previously hampered by the moon, time and weather. After an initial review of the shots I’ve scrapped the original composition I was chasing & now have 2 that mean so much more to me, they will be released in 2024.

I shot my best & first real bolts on an all-nighter storm chase with my good mate and can report I’m 100% addicted to storm photography!

Awards received were a Highly Commended Award in the Australian Photographer of the year awards for AstroDome and Highly Commended in the Australian Photography Magazine Landscape Awards for DryCreek and GoldenSands.

I set a personal task to be featured by the Tourism Western Australia social media, not only did I acheive this twice, I have been invited to regular catchups with the content team and I was also featured by Tourism Australia (5.8M followers)!

PHYSICAL PRINTS

A loungeroom with a photo hanging on the wall with a scene of Perth City at night.

CITY LIGHTS

I also sold a few physical prints from this new Squarespace site, the feedback I have recieved is it is much easier to navigate.

NFT/DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY

I launched a open-ish edition with gifts throughout the year, for me it was something different to try, a way to ride the bear market in the digital world and I also wanted to give-back & have a bit of fun.

So far 22 editions have been collected & final gifting is after the Aussie NYE with ALL holders of SummerDayz receiving an airdrop early in the new year!

During the year I minted 6 1/1s: SunsetHeart, SunriseRipples, AstroDune, BirdseyeView, OceanRocks and SunriseFriends. All 1/1’s I mint come with the option of a fine-art print and a pack of 20 postcards.

I was invited into the amazing Vibrant World hosted by @walasavagephoto and Ocean World hosted by @newlightvisuals - which led to the sale of SunsetHeart.

And GoldenSands was displayed at @NFT_NYC 23, one of the biggest gatherings of the NFT space in New York City.

I joined a discord channel, you may have heard of it - @clickcreateio - which has turned out to be the best community in the digital space, supportive, kind and fun.

CC have guest curators each month and if you are a member you have first dibs on the amazing weekly art drops. All the sub-pass holders received some pretty amazing rewards over the feastive seson, including a NFT digital display screen, shipped anywhere in the world!

Collected Images in 2023

I had the pleasure of having not one, but two 1/1 photographs collected throughout 2023. I am so very grateful for this.

AstroDome

AstroDome was collected by my good friend @Timmboslice_ in May with 20% of the sale being donated to the Waringarri Aboriginal Arts Centre in Kunanurra. This will be applied to any images I mint from the East Kimberley region of Western Australia.

SunsetHeart

In November SunsetHeart was collected by @Klutch_NFT an amazing collector and advocate of the digital space, hopefully his wife agrees to showcase the photo in thier home.

Klutch heads up the Click Create community along with NorcalGuy.

Community Vibes

Friends new and old in the digital space have made some amazing art and captured amazing moments in time!

I not only love supporting friends, I also love discovering the creative talents in the NFT space, my eyes are being opened to art that I didn’t even know I like.

One day I’ll own a digital frame and I know they’ll look brilliant, below is just one of many I’ve collected.

ékstasis by Marcelo Pinel

The image has had several interpretations and rereadings, and is emblematic for showing a person looking through the celestial vault, acting as an illustration for metaphysical and supradimensional concepts.

The term ékstasis comes from the Greek, and means, to rise, to go out of oneself, to be carried away or a mystical or religious trance.

2024 and Beyond!

In 2024 I will be minting a mix of editions & 1/1’s, my collections will stay with the same themes; SunLove, LandLove, OceanLove, StarLove and they will continue to grow with me and my photography journey, I hope you stay along for the ride!

Thank you for reading and thank you for supporting my passion.
